Unplugged - March 8th

Bob subscribed to an app called Far Out that provides hikers with all of the information they need about the trail itself as well as shelters, water sources, resuppliers and nearby resources. Although he invited me to follow him (kind of like Facebook) I can't actually see anything about his progress. So that makes it hard for me to share here, as we had hoped to do.

He also has the satellite tracker which he can use to update us on his location. It's limited as to the number of people he can alert, as well as the number and length of text messages, however, so communicating that way has been limited. And, since he's currently in the wild Georgia mountains, he can't use regular cell-based means of communication.

However, I can report that he got his first blister and that he was able to resupply his food (at Nell Gap - in case anyone wants to look that up). He also climbed Georgia's highest mountain. That's all the news I can report for day 4 - March 8th.

That said, I'm finding I'm okay with this. This is HIS journey, not mine, and though I (and others) would love to know all the details, that was not his intent when he set out. He is living in the moment - one step at a time - doing this hard and amazing thing. And I applaud him for it. This also gives me time to experience having no one to take care of but myself (unless I get an EMS call, of course). I am easing into this new but temporary state of being. I miss him, of course (there's no one to say "bless you" when I sneeze, among other things) but it's good for me to figure things out on my own. This is MY journey too - though a much less strenuous one.

Walk on, honey, walk on.
