Weather is a fact of life on the trail, but, as I reported previously, Builder knew he had to get ready for the big weather that was forecasted for last night. Initially his plan was to stay in one of two shelters. When he reached the first one it was too early in the day to stop. He encountered members of the Franklin, NC hiking club who were offering rides and support to anyone wanting to stay in Franklin for the night rather than a shelter. He decided to keep walking to the second shelter in hopes of meeting up with them again. This gave him his highest daily mileage yet - close to 16 miles.
With a plan to head to town, he next needed to find a place to stay. Naturally, many hikers were thinking the same thing so the hostels were fully, as was another hotel. He ended up calling a shuttle driver to take him into a Hampton Inn where he plans to stay at least two nights. Although it doesn't have a laundry room, it does have waffles, and another Ingles Grocery Story, which he has become a huge fan of. So today, the 16th is zero day #2.
But let me pause in my reporting to share a quick photo. This is the first glimpse I have had of him in days - and this was from a couple of days ago when he crossed the GA/NC border - his first goal of his journey. (He looks like a man having the time of his life right?)

When we spoke yesterday, Builder reported that he feels that his legs are getting stronger, his glutes are less sore and he has better stamina and breathing. (I wouldn't personally recommend the AT Workout Program for those trying to get more fit, but hey - what do I know?)
He also said he's getting more out of the Far Out app which is designed for hikers with everything about the trail. In particular, it notes the elevation change (up or down) between various points "so you know what to expect for the day." After reaching a summit of 5200 feet, he was passed by a ridge runner, sprinting by.
Lots more to come as I process the pictures he has provided.
