Day 1 - Springer Mountain

My day 1 was a day of travel and a day of wondering. Bob has a satellite tracker that would drop alerts periodically, but I didn't really know how he was doing at the nitty gritty level that we are used to sharing. Eventually his sister and I got a text saying "I'm OK. My location is (with map coordinates)." We got one at 10:12 am, another at 2:45 pm, and the last one for the day (though we didn't know it at the time) at 4:25 pm.

Here are the pictures he eventually shared when he had a moment to stop and send them a couple of days later.

See the white flash to the left? That - and an app called Far Out - are his guides.

He looks a bit damp.

As he sent the photos he also sent a couple of quick texts. He slept in a shelter the first night and there was someone who was a "big snorer" and said that ear plugs didn't help.

I'm getting used to not getting many details. This is his walk and he needs to experience it his way without reporting all the nitty gritty as some hikers choose to do. Check out YouTube for MANY videos of hikers on the trail right now.
